Jumping Brooms

Historically, jumping brooms date back to slavery times.  Since slaves were not allowed to officially wed, they created their own way of honoring their sacred union.  There are two basic meanings behind the jumping of the broom.  It is seen as a "sweeping away" of the past or  a new beginning for two individuals.  The use of the jumping broom in today's wedding ceremony, has brought about a recapturing of our rich history.  One that The River Nile Company wants to help you embrace on your special day. 

All of our selections are hand-crafted with silk flowers (some flowers are subject to availability), jewels, ornaments and ribbons.  We have tried to create brooms which represent the rich and vibrant colors of our African heritage.  Each broom also comes with a brief history of broom jumping.  We hope you like our selections:

"Purity"  

Beautifully handcrafted, this 32" broom has been wrapped from top to bottom with satin ribbon and pearl beading.  The flowers and organza ribbon add just the right touch to this vision of purity.

"Simply Delightful"

Simple yet elegant, this 32" broom has sheer white ribbon and tulle accenting a cascade of miniature calla lilies. The handle of the broom has been wrapped with a several satin ribbons to add to its delightful appearance.  A small gold accent ribbon has also been placed in the center of the bow to finish the vision.

"Spring Love"

Exquisitely handcrafted, this 32" broom has been entirely wrapped with emerald green satin ribbon.  The golden accent ribbon along with assorted daisies creates a uplifting feeling of spring and love.    

"Afrocentric I"

Just one of our series of afrocentric brooms, this 32" broom is criss-cross wrapped with a muslin material and adorned with cowrie shells. The ivy and green accent ribbon help to enhance this natural afrocentric look.

This 32" broom is carefully wrapped with gold metallic ribbon and adorned with cowrie shells and an ankh.  The brilliant green ribbon and flowers will create a subtle vibrant energy on your special day.

This 32" broom is a definite classic.  The stunning red roses and shimmering white ribbon add a beautiful contrast to its black handle. While the tulle ribbon adds flair and elegance.

This 32" broom is covered with blue kente cloth and cowrie shells.  The sheer blue accent ribbon and green foliage adds just the right touch to this River Nile favorite. (Traditional kente color also available).

This 32" broom has been carefully wrapped with pink satin ribbon and adorned with pink Swarovski crystals.  The sheer pink ribbon has also been inlayed with these exquisite crystals as well.
